Unfinished Business is the third episode of the third season of Suits and the 31st overall. It first aired on July 30, 2013.

Synopsis

Cameron has Harvey's client arrested for murder; Katrina tries to win over Louis; a British version of Harvey arrives at the firm.

Plot

Rachel and Mike are discussing their dating plans in the pantry, when Louis walks in and throws a bran bar Mike reached for into the trash, and coldly says as the new quarter master he has forbidden all first year associates to consume the bran bars. Mike attempts to apologize to Louis for agreeing to be his associate but then going back to Harvey, but the latter is still upset with him. Louis returns to his office to find Harvey waiting for him, and without Harvey saying anything, Louis tells him he does not accept any apology that Harvey has prepared for going back on his word that he would allow Louis to make Mike his associate. Harvey insists he is only here to give Louis files regarding Hessington Oil, since Louis would be the best person to tackle their legal issues with Tony Gisnopoloud orchestrating a takeover, something which Harvey openly admits to please Louis.

In a further effort to console Louis, Harvey suggests that the former take on a "rebound" associate, something he claims he had done after previously firing Mike. Louis insists however that he is not looking for a temporary superficial relationship, but someone he can truly mentor and would accompany him to activities such as going to the gun range, mudding or an origami festival, prompting an amused Harvey to respond that he will meet the right person to mentor. In the copier room, Rachel and Donna reconcile after their fight in the previous episode. Donna assures Rachel that she has forgiven Mike as well, although has not told him so that Mike will continue to secretly buy her favorite beverages.

In his office, Louis leaves a message on his Dictaphone for Norma, as Katrina Bennett enters his office to give him a file to help him with the Hessington Oil case. After Louis asks how does she qualify to be his personal associate, Katrina clarifies that she has no interest in being anyone's personal associate as she is a fifth year associate. However she knows Louis is good at his job, and believes instead they could be useful to each other, as Louis compares her proposed arrangement to being like a symbiotic relationship. Louis turns her down however, commenting that he has had enough of being used.

Harvey meets with Ava Hessington to discuss how Louis will be handling the takeover attempt on her firm. Ava offers Harvey an opportunity to leave the firm and work for her instead, as she believes he would be an excellent replacement for her former protégé and second in command. As Harvey turns down the opportunity, Cameron enters and to their shock, arrests Ava for a conspiracy to commit murder. In Cameron's office, he explains to Harvey that the colonel Ava confessed to bribing was found to have ordered the death of six civilians who were in the way of Ava developing her pipeline. Harvey accuses Cameron of making this case purely to cause trouble for him, something which Cameron admits but also points out that Harvey walked into his trap by getting Ava to confess to bribery.

Leaving Cameron's office, Harvey tells Mike to prepare do whatever he has to in order to bail Ava out, as Mike expresses his excitement that they are a team again. Mike questions Ava on her level of involvement in the murders of the civilians, as she replies that every death reported in that country is described as a military accident, and she had paid no heed to it. As Mike leaves the room, Ava asks Harvey if he thinks she did order those murders. Harvey replies that it is irrelevant, as the important thing is that he will clear her of the charges. Upon leaving the building, Harvey asks Mike to return to the firm to continue working on securing Ava's bail, jokingly promise to have a long talk with him after the whole thing is settled.

Mike returns to find Katrina Bennett leaving Harvey a file in his office. Mike tells her that Harvey is no longer looking for an associate anymore, and that he handles all of Harvey's cases. Katrina questions Mike's usefulness to Harvey, and says they will see who Harvey values more, before turning to face Donna who admonishes Katrina for entering Harvey's office while she is away, and tells her to accept that Mike speaks for Harvey completely. Mike thanks Donna for her help, as she comments that she will still be expecting free beverages in the future.

Jessica and Harvey discuss how Cameron tricked them into Ava confessing to bribery which linked her to murder. Harvey also tells her that he and Mike are now working together again, and she assures both Mike and Harvey that she holds no grudges against Mike previously threatening her. During the bail hearing, Harvey and Mike bring up how Cameron has never denied bailed for a defendant before, and accuses him of only doing so as part of personal vendetta against Harvey, to the point of hiding a witness and negotiating the previous settlement in bad faith. The judge calls them into her chambers, and Harvey brings up how Cameron confessed to him previously that he only accepted the case to cause trouble for him, and that Cameron leaked the details of the case to Tony Gianapolous. The judge declines Harvey's request to dismiss the case, but sets the bail to a single dollar, and warns Cameron that he better have concrete evidence tying Ava to the murders.

In the firm, a mysterious suave gentleman arrives and is about to enter Harvey's office. As Donna stops him from entering, the two begin to flirt playfully and the man introduces himself as Stephen Huntley. Harvey enters and is aware of Stephen's role as Darby's fixer, and dismisses him. Stephen realizes that Donna was secretly texting Harvey when they were flirting and appears impressed. Stephen enters Harvey's office and tells him that he is here to oversee "cultural integration", something which Harvey implies he does not believe and Stephen concludes that his best course of action is to stay out of Harvey's way to stay on his good side.

Jessica tells Harvey that Stephen brought with him the first dividend from the merger, and hands Harvey his share of a half a million dollars, although she herself received one and a half million dollars. They both discuss how they don't believe why Stephen claimed to be here, and Jessica instructs him to look into Harvey. Donna tells him that Stephen booked a suite for a month, which is longer than "cultural integration" should be, something which Harvey notes but also comments that Donna was looking into him even before Jessica ordered him to, suggesting that she is indeed interested in Stephen.

Katrina attempts to make peace with Mike while he is working on the case in the law library, but he turns her down and admonishes her for how she has treated everyone in the firm. Katrina asks if this is because of how she treated his "girlfriend", as Mike insists that it is about more than Rachel, while Katrina comments that he already knew who she was talking about. Katrina then mysteriously leaves the library with a smile.

Harvey goes to meet Stephen for lunch, and tells him that he already checked Stephen out of his room. Harvey asks him why he is really here, and Stephen admits he is really here to help Darby deliver on his promise of backing Harvey in taking over the firm from Jessica. Stephen jokingly tells him that in return, Harvey could race him using two luxury cars from his car club. Cameron approaches their table, and tells them he has secured 5 witnesses that confirm the colonel Ava bribed was at the scene of the murders and walks away smiling. Harvey still refuses Stephen's offer to help, even after the latter pointed out this is a request from Darby, merely replying that Darby himself was not here.

In Rachel's office, Rachel tells Mike that Donna told her that she has already forgiven Mike, and Mike relates to her the previous incident where Donna admonishes Katrina in his defense. They also discuss how Katrina referred to Rachel as Mike's girlfriend, something they realized they never officially established. Mike proceeds to covertly get down on a knee and asks Rachel to officially become his girlfriend, which she accepts. Just then, a video mocking Mike is shown across every computer in the firm, with the dialogue being from Mike's earlier conversation with Katrina. In Louis' office, Katrina tells him that after she has done this, no one will think Louis is a fool but instead Mike will be mocked by the entire firm. She also tells him that she gains nothing from this, and that without Louis' support and protection, her career in the firm will be over.

Mike and Harvey meet with Ava, and discuss how 3 of the witnesses can be discredited, and they can argue the deaths were part of a military incident, just as it was originally reported to Ava. Instead however, she proposes that the witnesses be bribed so that they will refuse to testify in the first place, and fires them after they refuse to do so. Mike and Rachel attempt to retaliate against Katrina, as Harvey walks in and tells Mike to continue working on Ava's case, since it is unlikely Cameron will just drop the case, asking him to think of how to bribe the witnesses legally. He also tells Mike not to retaliate against Katrina.

After assuring Jessica that they will regain Ava as a client, Harvey walks into Katrina's office and warns her that she is now done at this firm. Katrina argues that Harvey left her out to dry after hiring her, and he replies that she only got into the firm by extorting him and Mike, anything else she expects at the firm has nothing to do with him. He also clarifies that when he told her she was done, he meant that her career will never be more than it is at the moment, but if she ever tries to go after Mike again he will fire her regardless of whatever deal they have. Rachel observes the entire affair quietly from outside the office, and tells Mike, as the two began to joke about the matter, which gives Mike an idea. Mike suggests to Harvey that the witnesses can file a suit against Ava for emotional duress from witnessing the murders, and they can legally provide a settlement fee. Mike also thanks Harvey for defending him against Katrina, something Harvey admits that he himself was not planning to be involved in.

Just then, Harvey spots Stephen accompanying Ava out of the firm. After she leaves in her car, he demands to know if Stephen is now Ava's new lawyer. Instead however, Stephen reveals that Ava asked him if he was willing to bribe the witnesses, something that while he confirmed, he also insisted that Harvey was right as Cameron would merely use the bribe as further evidence. Stephen suggested to Ava instead that she return to Harvey as her lawyer, since he would best manage it, convincing Harvey that Stephen is indeed here to help. Stephen tells Harvey that even if he does not trust him, Darby trusts him, and since Darby wants Ava to be cleared of charges, Harvey can trust that Stephen will help with that.

In Ava's office, Mike presents Ava with their solution, and she asks if Harvey trusts him, which Mike replies is something he likes to think so. Ava asks if Harvey thinks she is guilty, and Mike replies that Harvey is only interested in the evidence and how they can clear Ava. As she continues to press him for an answer, Mike replies that he has no idea what Harvey thinks, but if he did he would never discuss it with anyone since Harvey would not want him to. Ava compliments him as being a good second in command to Harvey and asks if he himself thinks she is guilty, and he replies that its his job to represent her to the best of his ability but to say anything more would also be a betrayal to Harvey.

Outside the firm, Stephen pulls up alongside Donna on the pavement in a luxury car, and tells her that he lost the race. He asks her out and tells her that he let Harvey win, since if Harvey thinks he is better than him, he won't be jealous when Donna goes out with him. She turns him down, and he reveals that he was planning to take her to see Macbeth, portrayed by Daniel Day Lewis and drives off, leaving an impressed Donna behind.

Back at the firm, Louis gives Katrina his files on Tony Gianopoulous and welcomes her as his new protégé. In Harvey's office, Mike tells Harvey that the settlements have been finished, with the lawyer handling the cases of the witnesses being Harold Gunderson. Harvey asks Mike what he told Ava when she asked if he thought she was guilty, and Mike replies that he told her it was none of her concern. The two of them confirm however, that they both believe Ava did indeed order the murders. Harvey pours Mike a drink, and tells him that he made a deal with Darby to take over the firm from Jessica.

Quotes

Harvey: I have to say, I'm flattered.
Ava: I don't want you to be flattered. I want you to say yes.
Harvey: As much success as I've had with that line myself, I'm afraid I'm not an oil man.
Ava: The oil business is about oil as much as you being a lawyer is about the law. Every day is a knife fight in a prison yard. And something tells me you like a good knife fight.
Harvey: No rules in a knife fight.
Ava: Harvey, I've just lost my number two. I can't think of anyone better to replace him.
Harvey: Ava...
Ava: I'm a woman who gets what I want. And I am willing to pay for it.
Harvey: Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to whore myself out. I just prefer to have more than one client.
Harvey: If you have a problem defending someone who's accused of murder, I don't want to hear it.
Mike: You won't. Because I'm willing to do whatever it takes to win, whether she's innocent or not.
Harvey: Then come with me.
Mike: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. I'm going to see Ava with you?
Harvey: Yep.
Mike: Yeah, baby! Butch and Sundance are back!
Harvey: Ooh. No go.
Mike: What do What do What do you mean, "no go"?
Harvey: I mean you're not Butch or Sundance.
Mike: Why not?
Harvey: Because Butch was the leader and Sundance was the gunslinger and I'm both.
Mike: Okay. But Sundance couldn't swim, and Butch never shot anyone. So that makes you a loser.
Mike: Better than a fraud.
Mike: I think it's time for some new material.
Harvey: You write Midnight Train to Georgia, you don't just sing it once. And speaking of Butch Cassidy, let's go start a knife fight.
